Up until now, I've been able to get down on paper the ideas for stuff that I see in my head. For some reason, every time I tried to draw my idea for Ademar Castle, it never looked right.
I decided to try to sculpt it instead, and this is what came out. I never thought I'd be able to do conceptual work in sculpey, but now I might try it more often!
This is Ademar Castle from my upcoming comic The Chronicles of Ademar. It is made up of five separate trees, all twisted and grown around each other. The buildings were built onto the outside of the trees and supporting branches, with the area in the center of the trees hollowed out and built up to be a tower. The entire structure is huge (you can see the scale by the windows on the sides of all the buildings).
I'll be basing all of my drawings and sketches of the castle on this sculpture from this point on. I should have the website relaunched soon, since I plan on producing pages starting in the next couple weeks.
The main material is super sculpey, painted with acrylics. The fake foliage is a mix of lichen and synthetic plants I bought from a local train hobby shop in Savannah (Bull Street Station). Total production time: a whole ton of hours and three sore necks.
Wow, this is wonderful! It looks so much better in person though, these pictures don't do justice.
I love the colors that you chose they are very warm and I am also really glad you didn't go to crazy with the bushes because I would have hated for them to take away from the overall appearance of that good lookin' tree, but you added just the right amount bravo!

Thanks, sweetie. I owe you one for telling me not to cover too much of the roots. I had a feeling I was starting to get a little crazy with the foliage when I started putting glue everywhere!
There are a lot of themes that run through the stock gallery many people have similar ideas but they pull them off in different ways. In this series of newsletters we will look at similar ideas but different outcomes.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
